Our Supporters
Many community organizations, elected officials, religious leaders, and labor unions have joined Houston's janitors in our shared campaign to win health care and decent wages for thousands of hard-working Houston residents. Janitors from around the country who have already seen the benefits of joining together in the Justice for Janitors campaign have also come together to support their brothers and sisters in Houston.
“Houston is a city that values work. But the hard work of janitors is not being justly rewarded," says Houston Archbishop Emeritus Joseph Fiorenza. "Every worker in Houston, no matter what kind of job they do, should receive fair wages and have access to secure, affordable family health care. We must stand with the janitors in their struggle for justice and dignity.”
On July 16, 2006, supporters of the campaign came together to publicly release a letter to the Houston community that calls on office building owners, managers, contractors, and tenants to play a positive role in raising standards for janitors throughout Houston. Over 100 community leaders and elected officials signed the letter. (pdf)
